Read this short story and complete the exercises below.

Exercises

  1. Find, translate and publish 10-15 new words. Publish as a comment.
  2. Explain, in your own words, what a Turing test is. Post as a comment.
  3. Why is the rhyme question a good one?
  4. What do you make of the short story you just read. What are your thoughts and reactions?
  5. Make sure you can use the words below in a sentence. Publish some. 🙂
  6. Check up the biography of Alan Turing. What is his relation to Apple, according to urban legend. What did House of Commons do recently in relation to him?

Turing in The Imitation Game

Task: speaking

Discuss with a friend and write answers.

  • What do you understand as Artificial Intelligence?
  • Do you think that we are close to creating this? Why / why not?
  • What are some benefits or potential positives of AI?
  • What are some risks or potential dangers of AI?
  • Are you more optimistic or pessimistic about artificial intelligence technology? Why?
  • One often mentioned risk is that AI (or robots) will take over people’s jobs; what do you think about this argument?
  • What kinds of jobs do you think robots can do already?
  • If robots really did take over all (or most) jobs, what do you think would happen?
  • From before the industrial revolution economists and other experts have been predicting that at some point machines (now robots) will take over all jobs and people will have no need to work so hard and therefore we will all have more leisure time. What do you think of this statement?
  • Do you think that robots could become more intelligent than humans? Why / why not?
  • Do you think Artificial Intelligence also means that computers could possibly become conscious or self-aware? Why / why not?
  • Isaac Asimov was a biochemist, but he is most popular for his sci-fi novels and short stories he wrote, as well as for his 3 laws of robotics (now included in most popular media about robots as well as innovators’ consideration of robot-human interaction). What are the three laws of robotics? (1. a robot may not injure a human being or allow a human to be injured; 2. a robot must obey all human commands, as long as it does not cross the first rule; 3. a robot must protect its own existence, as long as it does not cross the first two rules.)
  • Do you think these three laws are enough to protect people from robots?

  1. According to the urban legend, the apple logo was inspired by Alan Turing’s suicide, which he took a bite from a cyanide-coated apple and that was what inspired the logo.
The bite from the apple is only a scale thing. Because when they scaled the logo down many people thought it was a cherry, so they just added the bite and after that everyone knows it’s an apple.

  3. The rhyme question is good because it makes the machine think about which of those three words rhymes with each other. If the machine gives the right answer means that it was thinking in conclusion it has a good intelligence and it was behaving like a human.

  4. 6. In the beginning of the story Is kind of trickery like when I was reading it I took Zack as a human which was the computer.
Zack was sure about his concious and he repeatedly said that computers can’t able to think like the humans does. after a while he had a suspense about weather its possible what his friend talking or not and in the end of story it gave up and realized that machines can have the intelligence of human.

  5. we understand that the Artificial intelligence is some type of Robot and they will become more popular for the next decades because of they understanding and answering like human being.

  6. Yeah! we think that they are close to create Artifical intellegence and we saw allready some type of this things.

  7. 1.They are robots, and its could be bad cause they could get smarter than humans
2.No, cause its not such thing cause we/they are not smart enough
    3. If we succeded
    4. KILL ALL THE HUMANS
    5. It would be cool but they could kill us
    6. They would rather kill us and take over the world.
    7. They could get smarter and then make cars and kill us
    8. World war robots
    9. The works will disappear and robots attacks humans
    10.yes they will get smarter
    11. Yes the could kill us if they got smarter
    12. Nope
    13. Nope

  8. Do ou thinks that we are close to creating this? Why / why not?
Yes, we think that we can create this because every day people get smarter, and inventions become better and better. People want that computer should talk like a human. We think it’s gonna be very good for us that talk with computer and they should work for us. Then we don’t need to write on the computer because we can just tell them to do our work. Like we have now Siri in iPhone.

  9. the benefits of the AI are that they will help us the way that we want to do something and faster than other kind of human.

  10. Ai are like robots but more smarter and intelligence. We are at the beginning of creating of Ai. Maybe they don’t need to brakes and can help more people for example in hospital. They can attack humanity and erase it. We are more optimistic about ai because they can help us eveolve.

They can take over people jobs however we humans take care of the more easier job of that we don’t need to lift very heavy objects however they can even take over the easier job like standing In front of cashier.

People can’t live because they can’t get money because there is no job left and we would be treated like animals.
They learn faster than us and can easily lead that they will be more smarter and more intelligence

They could be conscious and self-aware. The 3 rules are good enough to protect us, it doesn’t hurt us in any kind of way right now the rules are good though in the future we don’t know.

  11. What kinds of jobs do you think robots can do already?
Today, almost all large manufacturing jobs use robots to make millions of different products efficiently and at a low cost.

  12. 1. It’s like a thinking computer
    2. we don’t think that we are close humans think too slow.
    3. You don’t have to be active anymore.
    4. Risks are that Al could take over the world and make the human race go extinct.
    5. I’m optimistic becaues it’s sounds fun to have AI in the world.
    6. Well humans could control the AIs and keep the job.
    7. Build cars and make pizza.
    8. Many would lost there jobs
    9. That statment is good. More time to enjoy life
    10. Yes i think they can be smarter becouse they can remember everything they learn.
    11. I don’t think a computer can be self aware or conscious
    12. 1. a robot may not injure a human being or allow a human to be injured; 2. a robot must obey all human
commands, as long as it does not cross the first rule; 3. a robot must protect its own existence, as long as it
does not cross the first two rules.
    13. No I don’t

1, Artificial Intelligence is basically a thinking computer.
    2. We think that we are pretty close to perfecting artificial intelligence. Because we basically already created it but now we just have to perfect it.
3.Some benefits of AI aret hat it makes everything easier since the robots woul be able to think by themselves.
    4. If we do something wrong in the code it we could destroy the human race, and the robots would take over the world.
    5. We’re more or less optimistic about AI because it would make alot of stuff easier, it would be like having a little slave running around.
    6. Well it’s a pretty good argument not gonna lie, however, what would happen is that they will create new jobs as in maintaining the robots.
    7. Building stuff.
    8. That would be impossible because you need humans to maintain these robots.
    9. Well that would be bullshit, robots would be able to take over most of the jobs but not all jobs, you need someone to control and maintain these robots..
    10. We don’t think that robors could become smarter than human because, we can’t create something smarter than ourselves.
    11. We do think that computers and robots would be able become self aware.
    12. We think that there needs to be a fourth rule that says it can’t steal. But the 3 laws is enough to protect us humans from the robots..
