  1. I use the scale small-medium-big-gigantic to describe the different sized players while writing this comment.

The writer describes the first analysis as a dictatorship. In a room with this ”world order” there’s one or two players in the top of the food chain with the most mass. With no competion for the top place the player(s) focuses on eating the players that are categorised as ”big”. This leads to a rise in the population of medium sized players, which in turn makes it very difficult for the smallest players.

In the second analysis he describes the pyramid cycle in which the player climbs through the different sizes with an equal difficulty. The population of the different stages stay the same, however, the players in these categories change. One player will climb the pyramid, ultimately end up in the top, only to be killed and start over as the smallest again. If, on the other hand, the player who ends up as the biggest is skilled at the game and can evade death, the server will likely turn in to a dictatorship as described before.

In the third analysis the writer describes the establishment order. In this order there’s a normal pyramid cycle, but then there’s a small gap to the top ten players who all fight for the number one spot. The small to big players all play in a normal pyramid cycle while the gigantic players play their own game. This will often happen when a couple of very skillfull players get in the same lobby. If there had been one skillfull player in the lobby it would have turned in to a dictatorship.

I think agar.io success is very similar to the game Flappy bird. The game itself doesn’t have to be very good, but it has to meet some requirments to succeed. The first requirment is that it has to be easy to play. There can’t be an hour long installation process because most people can’t be arsed to deal with that. In agar.io’s case all you need is a browser and the link. Your game will most likely not reach a big audience if it’s hard to download or expensive. A second requirment is that it has to be fast and easy to learn and get in to. Most people want to play right away, not learn a game for an hour before being able to play it. The third requirment is addiction. In agar.io’s case you want to keep growing and reach the top of the scoreboard. If you die you just have to click restart and you’re off again, which is very easy to do. If it’s easy to try again (and people have a reason to) most people will keep playing.

  2. 2. According to what I have read the writer describes the first analysis as a dictatorship. He is telling us that there are a room where the top players are the ones who are getting attacked first because they are the ”biggest”. The players simple wants to become the new dictator. His conclusion to all this was that this could increase the difficulty to the smaller players because the bigger ones will attack them.

In the second analysis the writer describe the pyramid cycle which the players grow through with an equal difficulty. The population of the different sizes stay the same, but it could happen that one of players becomes better or worse. One of the player will grow, end in the top, get killed and start over again. But, if the player is skilled and get to the top of the pyramid, he/she could avoid death. The writer is trying to tell us, in his second analysis, that Agar.io is a skilled based game which we want to become bigger and unstoppable.

In the third analysis the writer describes about the establishment order. The establishment order is one of those rooms where you can see the same names all over the leaderboard since you start playing and until you leave. The most skilled players rise to the top and are able to escape the cycle of the pyramid by creating a gap between the normal and big players. The gigantic players play their own game while the other players are trying to reach the top. If the one player reaches the top the lobby would probably turn into a dictatorship according to the writer.

    3. I think agar.io got popular because it’s a casual, action game and you can jump into a game and start eating other players and dominating the virtual world. There is no need to download anything and there are no complicated tutorials, which some players hate. This game is also easy to learn.

  3. 2. The first analysis is that agario is kind of a dictatorship. Of the top 10 list there are often one to two huge blobs while the others on the list have almost half their points. What happens then is that these two huge blobs constantly are targeted.

The second analysis is the pyramid cycle. Every blob starts out small, grows, gets big, and then dies. The only difference is how much they grow. The cycle stays the same. If however the player is able to come to the top and stay there, the game will turn into a dictatorship where this largest player rules.

The last and third analysis is the establishment order. This is when the leaderboard stays the same the whole time. The blobs are all big enough to threaten eachother but none is powerful enough to actually claim the first place by eating the others.

    3. The main reason why agario is so succesful in my opinion is due to the game being so extremely simple. You start out small, eat cells and players in an attempt to become big but ultimately you die and have to start over again. The game feels really rewarding when you eat another player or become big. All this makes the game really fun and enjoyable and thus succesful.

  4. The success behind a game is really hard to describe with out having some type of statisticsto give you a clear outcome of what have happened previously. But in my opinion these are the main reasons. The first is that you can communicate and make other people get stronger by sacrificing yourself to them by just pressing (W). This a very important part of every game, the communication with other players. Other games uses text and others use voice to get the players to interact, but agar.io has chosen another way, by not having any communication, only by sacrifice. People don’t trust each other by only hearing their voices or their text, they trust people by sacrifices, by working or donating.

The game has also succeeded by making all players equal. All players start at the same size and have to equally climb the strength ladder to gain success. When a player grows and gains strength he feels that he is more powerful then his competitors. This often the target of a game to make the player to feel powerful so he can wreak havoc to the other players. Games are also meant to be hard and difficult so the player can’t achieve instant success, the game-makers want a David and Goliath effect where the underdog have no chance against the big guy but if he works hard and good enough he can always win.

The last main reason is the simplicity of the game. As the game is only circles there isn’t any difficult UI or graphics to understand. Any player can jump in and gain success because the game is so easy. No ”Goliath” player try to get the small guys to feed, they want to take their rivals success away so they can grow stronger.

To conclude I would want to say the main reason is the games simplicity, all the way from the graphics and game mechanics to how the player try to communicate with others in any way possible. Many games should look more at games like agar.io and Minecraft to realize that sometimes less is actually more.

  5. In the first analysis is about Dictatorship and we learn that the either one or two of top players kills the other big players so they can grow to compete to be the dictator. In games likes this the small ones have almost no chance to compete in the game because the top two player eat everybody who get to medium and large sizes. So when the small players try to grow bigger they get killed by the top two. The top ten will always change except the top two or the top one.

In the second analysis is about the pyramid cycle the writer describes it like anyone can clime up with the same difficulty even if you are small or big and you can climb to the top ten but the difference between pyramid and dictatorship is that the top ten always change you can climb up to the top but you’re also very likely to replaced by someone else.

In the third analysis is about establishment and the writer says that the establishment order is the same as the the pyramid except that the top ten doesn’t change and everyone in the top ten is fighting for the number one. In a establishment there two parts of the game one where the top ten fight against each other and everyone else is fighting each other.

Why I think that agar.io is a successful game because it’s a very addicting game it makes you to play more because it’s very easy to play and you want to be in the top ten and even when you lose you still want to play because you know that you have the capability to be in the top ten or even the top one

  6. In the first order he describes the room as a dictatorship. The one and two spot on the leader board will most likely stay the same the whole time mean while the other spots will change more often. The one and two spot holds the most mass and hunts for the cells with an average big mass witch leads to a rise of the medium big cells and makes it harder for the small ones to survive.

The second order is about a pyramid cycle and this is the most common order. It’s an equal difficulty in every stage of growth. So everyone has the same change to make it to the top, but the road to get there is slow and steady and when you have reach the top it’s most likely that you will die and start over. Unless you have a shit load of skill and turn it into a dictatorship.

The third order the writer talks about establishment. This order starts out as a pyramid order but when all the top skill player reach into the top ten the game changes. They are now so massive so they are only battling against each other too reach the number one spot. Mean while the casual players are stuck in a pyramid order below the top ten.

I think this game was a success because it’s not hard to learn and you still get the feeling of success in a balanced way between tediousness and excitement.

  7. Pyramid Cycle
The author describes the part of the game where you start from the bottom of the pyramid, where the most players are and then steady climb up to the top to be the best player in that room.

    Dictatorship
Here, the author describes how the goal is to hold the number one position and because it is such an impossible task at first because of the competitive gameplay, it is highly rewarding in the end and that is in my opinion why you keep playing. Kind of the same as ”King of the hill”.

    Establishment
This is the part where the author brings up the part where the gap between big players and normal players is created, which is hard to maintain because of the passively mass loss. That is also one factor of the game being so addictive because of the insecurity when you finally make it to the top.

Agatio got popular because it is not just a game on the agar.io site but also on many mini games sites and that makes it easy to find. It’s like advertising. It is simple and addictive and reflects certain aspects of real life.

  8. In the first analysis he talks about dictatorship, he says that the players categorized as ”big” are frequently getting attacked by smaller players to become ”big” aswell thus making it difficult for the new/smaller players to actually have any chance to be one of the top players if even a ”big” player.

In the second part of the analysis is about the pyramid cycle in which he says that all players start as ”small”, all players and tries to climb to the top of the pyramid which is to be classified as a ”big” player, each stages of the pyramid cycle has an equal amount of difficulty, and when you come to the top you will end up dead and have to reclimb the pyramid.

In the third part of this analysis he talks about something called establishment order this is about the leaderboard which almost stays the same from when you start the game until you leave, the most skilled players maneges to escape the pyramid cycle that i mentioned before and are able to rise to the top 10 players, the ”gigantic” players which are the top 10 players play their own game where they try and ”eat” eachother.

The reason behind this game’s success is the simplicity behind the core mechanics of the game, its easy and fun to play which makes it more enjoyable for more players to play and the thought of being amongst the top 10 players sounds really nice when you think about it, and this game has received alot of publicity through YouTube, alot of big YouTubers are constantly making videos where they show how to get to the top of the leaderboard and make the viewers want ot try the techniques themselves.

  9. 2. The writer uses the term Agar Order, which is as an analogy, or a similarity, to the real World Order. The Agar Order is split into three different orders, which have all been analyzed by the writer.

The first analysis is about ”Dictatorship”. In a game room where there is one or two players that are way bigger then everyone else, that also strive to keep their top spot and therefore stay aggressive, a growth plateau will be created at the lower levels. Medium and low sized players will end up in a stagnated state where it’s incredibly hard to progress. The reason being that the smaller players will be killed by, or progress into, a medium sized player. But once a medium sized player turns bigger, the dictators, the biggest players, will be there to clean them up.

The second analysis is about the ”Pyramid Cycle” where players grow with an equal difficulty and where the top players generally don’t keep their top spots for a long time. Players get to the top but get killed off by another rising player, and the cycle continues that way.

The third analysis is about the ”Establishment” order. A game where there is an Establishment order the lower levels usually plays out as a Pyramid Cycle. But the top ten players have created a gap so big between them and the lower ranks, that allows them to stay in the top ten through out a whole game. The top ten all try to contend for the number one spot, whilst the lower levels carry on with their game.

    3. A big part of game’s success is the simple yet engaging playstyle. It’s an easy game to understand but takes practice and smarts to master. Even though it’s as straight forward as few, it’s also extremely rewarding when you do succeed and play better than every one else in a room.

  10. The three most important analytical points in my opinion is the authors take on the different scenarios that can happen. The dictatorship, the pyramid cycle and the establishment. Each of them has their own requirements and circumstances that need to be met for one of them to take place. In one game there can be no more than one fo these scenarios at the same time. Which scenario will take place and what the outcome of each specific game will be is determined by many different factors the main two being the amount of players and they skill level in these players.

I think the success of agar.io is thanks to it’s pure simplicity and availability. The controls are simple with very few mechanics so a new player can get comfortable really quick, the quickness of each game and how easy it is to join one makes it so that many people choose agar as a quick join and play type game. But the main reason behind it’s success is in my opinion the different large ”profile” people for example PewDiePie that played agar when it was first released and made it go viral.

  11. the first analysis describes agario as a dictatorship. that the ones in the top list in the game are being targeted by the little and the other ones because they also wanna be in the leader board. so the bigger ones will be targeted first.

then in the second analysis its describes as a pyramid cycle. that you start small and are trying to get bigger and bigger than the other players. then you will also die and try again getting bigger than the others. you can either succeed by being in the leader bord becoming the dictator or fail and just try again just like the rest.

in the third analysis is the establishment order. is where the ones who are in the top leader board are playing in their own game against the other nine in the board trying to get to the top and stay there.

the reason why agario is succesful is because of how simple it is to play and is addicting by how it is. you just wanna be in the top score or just eat another play and keep it going or do it again when dying.

    Gilla

  12. The first analytical point is where the writer describes it like a dictatorship. The biggest players are naturally the ones ”ruling” the server. The biggest player cannot be eaten by the smaller players, however the biggest can eat whoever he wants, meaning he has the advantage.

The second analytical point is the pyramid cycle. Everyone start of at the bottom of the pyramid and work their way up to the top.

The third analytical point is the establishment. The establishment starts out as a normal pyramid cycle, but once the top players stay at the top for a longer period of time. The gap between them and the new players widen.

The reason i think Agario is so popular, is because it’s so easy to get into and start playing. And when you start to get the hang of how the game works, you start to want to reach the top of the leaderboard, meaning you play the game even more.

    Gilla

  13. In the first analysis I understand it as a dictatorship, when you connect to the game you will see the leader board containing the players who are the ”biggest” in this means the biggest dictator. This makes it difficult for the smaller players to survive cause of the bigger dictators.

In the second analysis the writer describes it as an good old pyramid chain. The pyramid for describes the players difficult to climb the pyramid. The higher they go up in this means ”grow” the more difficult it is. When they are at the top the difficulty will be so high that they will die and start all over from the bottom again thus the pyramid theory.

In the third article the author mentions something called establishment order where in short you see the same leader board with the same players the whole session you’re playing. Those people are experienced on the game or just cooperating with the other ”giants”. They are in the top competing against each other leaving the smaller players down below not even seeing them as worthy opponents.

The reason it became so popular and successful.
The reason it became so successful is because of the sponsoring they got from big YouTubers such as Pewdiepie and many other. They made the game big and successful making many more people to experience the game. The game was already good before all the YouTubers but wouldn’t be as popular as now. The growth rate of the game would be much slower.
But speaking of gameplay it’s a whole other thing. It’s addicting trying to strive for the top until you give up.

    Gilla

  14. The most common that happens in a agar.io room is that it evolves into a dictatorship. The top two biggest players completely controls the room and eats whoever they want, by being the absolut number 1 or 2 by a big lead from number 3 they can control being the top by eating the ones who are trying to rise to the top. If all the players who are close to being categories as big gets eaten there will be a lot of small and middle sized players who gets eaten up as soon they reach big.

In the second analys he describes the room like a pyramid cycle which is pretty close as an dictatorship but when players reach the top they die and needs to restart, that way ever stage of growing bigger will be much easier compared to a dictatorship room cause there are no overwhelming player who are keeping all the other players in check of not succeeding at growing at a size to be able to compete against that overwhelming player.

In the third analysis it describes as an establishment order. In that room the top ten player compete against each other and want to rise to the number 1 spot and nearly ignore the low players. The gap between big and small is huge and if one player succeed in getting the number 1 spot and creates a gap between the top ten and himself the number 1 spot it will then be considered a dictatorship.

I think the game got so popular cause of how easy it is to access, easy to play and cause its multiplayer. The game exist on the web and it is as easy to access as facebook, how to play the game is as simple as having a mouse and by it being multiplayer there will be a competition between players. I think the most important is the multiplayer part, imagined that the game was just a singel player on the web, than the achievement to begin the number 1 in that room would be completely lost cause it would be a requirement to beat the game.

    Gilla

  15. The first point that the writer talks about is the dictatorship. In this scenario one or two very aggressive players are on top and they constantly eat the big cells. This allows the medium-sized players to thrive and in turn makes it very difficult for the small players to survive .

He continues to talk about the second point, the Pyramid Cycle. The pyramid cycle is the most common and it allows for a smooth growth. In a pyramid cycle everybody strives to go to the top under the same conditions, replacing each other while leaving the main power structure untouched.

The final scenario is the Establishment. In this scenario there is a group of high skill players who always stay on the top of the leaderboard, it plays like a normal pyramid from the start up to medium-sized/big mass but then there is a gap because of the top players keeps eating from the pyramid to stay big.

I think that agario got so successful because it is very easy to learn, it is very satisfying to eat another player because it tells you that you are a better player than them and when you get really big you feel very powerful when all the tiny players run in terror at the sight of you.

    Gilla

  16. 2. He is saying that there is two types of ”roles” in the game, the big guys and the samll guys. And that this makes the balance of power unfair and is in the favor of the big guys that eat the smaller cells.
For the big cells to be able to eat the small cells thay need to split to smaller pices and that make them vulnerable to attacks and can lose everthing. The small cells have a higer speed the the large cells and thats way the big ones need to split and thats when the small cells can attack
He breings that the game plays diffrent on every server. On some of the servers its easy to find smaller cells to get to the top of the score borde but one other server u reache a surtent size and the u realize everbody is around the same size and the game almost get to a halt.

    3. I think Agar.io is a modern version of survival of the fittest. And thats what makes it fun to play, that u start out small and need to think smart to be able to become the biggest one alive. The game has a good way of showing how the world works that the ”big shots” pray on the smal and weak, and that the ”smal guys” want to become one of the ”big shots”. And to make the game playable by everbody you make it super simpel so that even a baby can understand.
