According to the evaluation results and our common interpretation of them we decided to increase the reading of advanced political texts.
Yesterday president Donald Trump issued an executive order that made it harder to finance planned parenthood and put limits to organizations who work with women in need of an abortion.
An executive order is one of the powers of the president. The first famous executive order was the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln, abolishing slavery.
Read one or both of the texts.
Write a tweet about the text you read. 😉 Or, very short summary. Trump likes writing tweets perhaps you can even imitate his style?
Present 3-5 new words from the text and explain them.
Explain what an executive order is based on the wikipedia text linked above. Be prepared to explain to class.
And a Dutch joke

Executive Orders are legally binding orders given by the President to Federal Administrative Agencies. Executive Orders are generally used to direct federal agencies and officials in their execution of established laws or policies. However, in many instances they have been used to guide agencies in directions based on intent. The main issue with this is the fact that executive orders make it possible to twist and bypass the law in many cases.

Executive order are orders given by the president to other agents departments of issues that need to be taking care of. On Trumps first day he already made 3 executive orders. The biggest issue with executive orders is that they can bypass the law.
Trump reinstated the Mexico City policy, aka the global gag rule, which was first put in place by president Ronald Reagan in 1984.
The Mexico City policy prohibits giving US funding to international nongovernmental organisations that advise on a wide range of family planning and reproductive health options if they include abortion.
None of the money sent to those organisations are used to perform abortions. That has been prohibited since the Helms amendment was created in 1973, which prevents the use of US tax dollars for funding overseas abortions.
People who agree with the policy however argues that the Helms amendment isn’t strong enough by itself.
The policy has severe implications and could be deadly for women in developing countries and conflict zones. Since they tend to resort to dangerous methods of ending their pregnancies if they lack access to safer options.
Words i would not normally use in everyday conversations.

Rescinded: to rescind is to take back or cancel. Taking back an order for example, or canceling something, in this case a policy.

Donald Trump signed a law about abortions which mostly concerns women while there were few, if any, women present.
The Huffington post just wrote an article about one of Donald Trumps first executive orders. The executive order makes it harder to get an abortion. The author was very critical to the fact that there were very few to no women in the room when the order was signed.
Proponents – a person who puts forward a proposition or proposal
Rescinded – to say officially that something is no longer valid, for example an executive order

warranted: to give reason or sanction
The executive orders have the full force of law when they take control from a lawmaking power, which gain its power directly to Executive by the constitution, or are made accordance pursuant to act of congress that definitely give empower to the president some gradation of delegated legislation.
