Well, it’s Monday

And my daughter is ill. In today’s news you can read the story about how you can buy a WWII encryption machine on ebay. The Lorenz machine now found being even more complicated then the Enigma which we read about earlier this year.

Definition

So what’s encryption? According to Microsoft it is:

Encryption is the name given to the process of applying an algorithm to a message, which scrambles the data in it-making it very difficult and time consuming, if not practically impossible, to deduce the original given only the encoded data. Inputs to the algorithm typically involve additional secret data called keys, which prevents the message from being decoded-even if the algorithm is publicly known.

  1. The article is telling the story of a museum in the UK who was searching for a rare Lorenz machine, a machine which was used during the Second World War to send encrypted messages. Unexpectedly on of the museum workers found a machine on Ebay. Someone had found Lorenz machine in their shed and decided to sell it on Ebay. The seller didn’t understand the machines true value and thought it just was a normal, albeit a very old, telegram machine. The museum bought for a couple of pounds and are now working to restore it to working order. To do this they need a motor and are currently searching for one.

  6. The article is about a museum. They found an old encryption machine and bought it from Ebay, funny thing is that the seller didn’t know the true value of that machine, thinking it was an useless machine and sold it for 10 pounds. The encqryption machine was actually a rare Lorenz machine that had been used during the World War 2 to send encrypted messages. The museum haven’t completely restored the machine due to the missing motor.

The museum found it from eBay and the guy was selling it as ”the keyboard being kept, in its original case, on the floor of a shed ‘with rubbish all over it’. The seller propably didn’t realize the real value of the machine because he was selling it for 14£. The museum got little of the prize and they are now trying to fix it.

  13. World War 2 strategies relied a lot upon encrypting messages, to make sure that the enemy could not access their message and there for they could not predict what the enemy would do in the future. For this the Germans used an encryption machine called Lorentz teleprinter. One British museum has been searching for it a long time and with the help of volunteers they found one very important part for this particular device. They found this on EBay and of course they had to go and check it out, when they realized that it was real they bought it for only 10£.

The article is about a british museum that is searching for parts to a Lorenz cipher machine. The Lorenz cipher machine was the machine that the Nazis used when encrypting their secret messages.
The museum wants to restore the machine to working order. So in order to do just that, they’re searching for parts. So when a museum volunteer finds what seems like a Lorenz teleprinter on eBay it seemed too good to be true. They weren’t certain that it was the real thing, it might have been a Lorenz teleprinter that was common in commercials. They bought it for £10. And its real value hasn’t been made clear yet.
When it was being refurbished it was made clear that it had military origins.

Lorenz was used by the nazis during World War II and is rumored to be even more complex than the Enigma machine used earlier by the Nazis. The museum found the parts needed to recreate the Lorenz machine and their main goal right now is to restore it to a working state.

  17. A British museum happened upon a Lorenz teleprinter on eBay, the Lorenz cipher machine, which was used by the Nazis in World War II to send secret messages. At the time neither the Museum folk or the seller knew what kind of rare piece it actually was. Only after buying it for £10 and cleaning it up did the museum realize that it was the actual Lorenz teleprinter used by the military. Now the museum plans on restoring the machine and for that end they need to find the missing drive motor. And apparenly once it’s up and running ”they wil be able to tell from beginning to end the tale of how the allies broke Germany’s secret codes”.

The museum wants to repair the machine and see how its works, that’s why they are looking for new parts.
One day did some staff from the museum found a Lorenz chiper machine on ebay for 10 pounds, they weren’t sure it was the real deal but it was to good to be true anyways and the price were only 10 pounds so they bought it. Its real value hasn’t been made clear yet.
But they now know that it was used for military purposes.
