  1. What was the motive for the assassinations?
Lincoln had just made a huge accomplishment in their war against the Confederate. So Booth wanted to find some way to stop the Confederate from being beaten.
In Gustav the thirds case the assassins were a bunch of men that thought Gustav had done them wrong. He had taken away almost all their power they once had.

Any similar circumstances surrounding the murder (murder weapon, death, place of assassination, investigation, consequences, etc.)?
Both of them didn’t die instantly. Both of the murders happened at an open local places with lots of people to see(probably to let everyone know they died). In a way the reasons for both the murders are similar. Booth thought Lincoln had done him wrong by winning against what he believed in. And Anckarström and his buddies had been stripped of their power. In both cases the investigations were large compared to the country’s size and were over fairly quickly.
The first attempt to kidnap Lincoln is around the same time of the year that Gustav was assassinated(something about march and assassinations seems odd).

Something clearly dissimilar between the two events?
The way of killing. One was silent by knife, the other loud and noisy by gun. Also the pure number of people that was appointed for the investigation. The manhunt for Booth is deemed one of the largest in mankind’s history.
Point of death, one in march other in April.

What kinds of leadership did these historical figures represent? (Important actions in life?)
Both of them were leaders during wars and were mostly winning them. They represent strong and good military structure. In a way maybe dictatorship(?). Gustav the third took over from Gustav the second whilst Sweden was a country of great power. And Lincoln which had the job to finish the Civil war.

  2. What was the motive for the assassinations?
According to the assassins bad rulers, booth thought that Lincoln was bad they were at war with each other and Anckarström thought that Gustav III was a bad ruler because he had dragged Sweden into a war with russia and had reduced the status of some nobles.

They were both assassinated at theaters, both were the leaders of nations killed because of a war of some kind. Both shot from behind, one in the back and the other in the back of the head.

Lincoln was openly assassinated and the murderer was the mastermind too it seems he also escaped from the scene of the crime. Gustav’s murderer was kind of a puppet feels like, the nobles who told him when and how, the ones pulling the strings.

Lincoln led the U.S in the American civil war against the Confederate armies. And got killed because of it. Gustav III was also at war, he fought the Russians and it didn’t go well for him at first, then at one battle he killed a third of the Russian fleet and 7000 men and a month later the war ended. So they both lead their nation through war and got killed because of it.

What importance does the two historical figures have today?
As a swede I almost never hear of ”the great deeds of Gustav III” but maybe i’m just ignorant. Lincoln on the other hand ended slavery in the U.S after he won the civil war think how different the world would be if there was still slavery…

  3. Both killers were in their late 20s when they killed the leaders.
A large difference is the way the 2 countries handled the co-conspirators. In Sweden’s case they didn’t feel like executing them, they just imprisoned them. Compared to the US where they executed everyone involved. This says a lot about the different ways to handle a country.

  4. What was the motive for the assassinations?
Both had political agendas of killing the ruler of the country

Any similar circumstances surrounding the murder (murder weapon, death, place of assassination, investigation, consequences, etc.)?
Both were in a crowded place, Both were shot with guns and both lead the change of the countries ruler. The events also happened in a similar time span

Something clearly dissimilar between the two events?
Lincoln was assassinated in a private box while Gustav III was shot around a mass of other people.

What kinds of leadership did these historical figures represent? (Important actions in life?)
Both represented their countries to be the best, both on the battlefield and in other places like propaganda.

The advanced question and more disappeared after trying to post it but the site wouldn’t accept it 😦

  5. Motive: For the assassination of Gustav III, it was the despise for the way he ruled the country. He had been taking away privileges that the noble had and had gone into a war with Russia that was very one sided, to Russia’s favor which made Gustav not so likable for the nobles that assassinated him.

The assassination of Lincoln was because he led the Union/north side of the war and was eventually elected as president. The confederate remain were upset of the Union winning and therefore wanted to kill their leader, Lincoln.

Circumstances: Both were murder at almost point-blank range with pistols.
They were both attending some kind of event on the night of the murders.
The killers didn’t work alone, they were both part of a group of politic resistance.
They both survived the initial attack but died later.
Both of them had friends and/or family with them while the assassination took place.

Dissimilarities: Gustav got warned and was just cocky to not take action against it, Lincoln was surprised.
In Lincoln’s case, not only him got injured, also Rathbone got stabbed.
It took significantly longer for Gustav to die than Lincoln.
You could say that while Lincoln stood for something good, Gustav was a warmonger which makes the motive very different. The ones assassinating Lincoln stood for something usually considered as bad, while ones assassinating Gustav were unhappy with the war that Gustav had started and was therefore trying to help, in a way.

Leadership: As I stated before, while Lincoln stood for the good side, trying to end slavery and standing against the conservative confederate. He was considered a hero by many and was very popular and looked up to. From just reading the short text, I get the feeling that the king was not very likable with him starting a war that was apparently clearly un-winnable, which probably made him unpopular with the people. That justifies the murder in more ways than the murder of Lincoln.

  6. 1. The assassins were not pleased by how the leaders ruled the government.

    2. Both were shot with a pistol, pained to death by their injury, killed at an entertainment event, both had company at the moment and none of the assassins were caught on the place of the murder.

    3. Gustav III was warned. John Wilkes Booth broke his leg during his escape.

    4. Gustav II had withdrawn many of the noble privileges and dragged Sweden into an unpopular and futile war against Russia .
Lincoln was a president leading in the Civil war.

  7. The motives for the assassinations was like to end the tyranny/rule of their king/president for what they have done or for what they wanna end.

they both killed with weapons like a gun and knife/sword. It was in a crowded place with many people, they died by a gun and died some time after the shot. the murderer of lincoln was alone when he shoot lincoln and the one killing Gustav was not. the one’s who shot Gustav had black cloaks on them self while the guy who shot Lincoln didn’t have something particular on himself.

king Gustav died by blood poisoning and lincoln just died some time after. Gustav was shot in a ball rom and Lincoln was shot in the theater. one did it to end the civil war in america and the other did it for their personal desire.

president Lincoln lead America when the civil war happened and won but didn’t see what happened after the civil war. Gustav was a man that wanted Sweden to prosper and made it happened even if it was force full like a diktator.

  8. Gustav III: He was killed of a military named Jacob and he killed him because of in the winter nobelem had gathered to discuss their hatred.

Abraham Lincoln: He died because they wanted to throw U.S. government into disarray

Both were shot but Gustav did not die from the shot.

The killer of Gustav just wanted to see him died because he hate hims but in the other hand Abrahams killer wanted to fuck the U.S. government. Gustav death was hidden where no witness but Abrahams where public.

Abraham had a more importen roll of the history in the whole world not just U.S. but Gustav did just have a big roll in Sweden.

For the U.S. that Abraham died mean that one of the greatest president died, he could have made the America better. For Sweden did it not mean so much except for that Gustav III was our king and thats mean the country will have a rough year.

Abraham is the dude you look back at and use him as a great example of a great president. Gustav does not mean so much, he is just a dead king.

  9. What was the motive for the assassinations?
Both murders were political. In the case of Gustav III’s murder the culprits’ motive was that they were tired of Gustav III’s autocratic rule. He had made a few unpopular choices, among them being withdrawal of a few nobles’ privileges and the starting of a futile was against Russia. In the case of Abraham Lincoln’s murder the culprits were with the opposing faction in the civil war and they wished for revenge after losing.

Any similar circumstances surrounding the murder?
Both murders was due to the disliking of the leader by others. And both surrounded by war.
I would say that there kind of is a similarity between the two places the murders took place in. The opera, where king Gustav III was murdered, and the theatre where Abraham Lincoln was murdered. In both cases the one who was murdered was shot by a firearm. The only clear consequence that I can see is the fact that the country was set in disarray and needed a new leader.

Something clearly dissimilar between the two events?
The way they ended up dying. King Gustav III was shot in a way that’s not as fatal and days later died from blood poisoning, meaning that he was alive for awhile and in some way the removal of the bullet must have failed. While in the case of Abraham Lincoln the wound was fatal and he could not be saved.

What kinds of leadership did these historical figures represent?
Abraham Lincoln was USA’s president and the leader of one side in the American Civil War. King Gustav III was the king and led an autocratic rule.

  10. QUESTIONS:
    ——————-
    1. The assassins were not happy by their king or president, so they decided to kill them. They had low power in their country.

    2. Gustav III and Abraham Lincoln got killed by a pistol. But, Gustav III died by an infection when he got shot by the pistol. Both were killed in a public place.

    3. Gustav III died by an infection when he got shot and Abraham didn’t. Gustav III got a letter from the assassins and they warned him, Abraham didn’t.

    4. Gustav III had dragged Sweden into an unpopular and futile war against Russia 1787- 1790. They had had enough and plotted to kill the monarch and end his autocratic rule.

Abraham Lincoln was a president to lead the American civil war.

    Extra questions
    ———————
    1. One of the assassins who was involved the killing was a military called Jacob and he was 29 years old and his friend Booth was 27. Abraham’s killer was John Wilkes Booth, I think he was 30 years old when he killed Abraham.

    2. Gustav III got killed in spring, March. Abraham got killed in summer, April.

    Gilla

  11. Gustav III

As a king a lot of people wanted to kill him and the reason for his assassination was because of a number of reasons, for example Gustav III draged Sweden in to war and he reduced the noble privileges, that they had at the time.

    Abraham Lincoln

Just a few days before the assassination of Lincoln, The American Civil war had ended. The war was between the Union and the Confederate and the man who assassinated Lincoln was a Confederate. John Wilkes Booth came up with a desperate plan to save the confederacy.

    – – – – – – –

The biggest similarity between these assassinations according to me is the place of attack. Both of the attacks took place in a very public place, Lincoln was attacked in the theater and Gustav III was attacked in a masquerade.

Booth was a man that believed in the confederacy. They had been at war with the Union and the assassin that killed Gustav was not in war with him. This is the biggest different between the two assassinations, one was a act because of war the other was because of how he ruled his country.

Lincoln was famous for his actions in the American Civil war, he was president when the war was over. Today Lincoln is seen as the president who freed the slaves, and he is still a important figure.

Gustav III was the King who dragged Sweden into war with Russia without and declaration of war, which was very unpopular and it made him hated.

    Gilla

  12. What was the motive for the assassinations?
The events that led to the assassinations of Gustav III was that he had withdrawn many of their noble privileges and had also led the Swedish country to a hopeless war against the Russians, which led to more disappointed citizens and nobles in Sweden. That is why a noble group were planning an assassination on the Swedish king.
The plan was to kidnap president Lincoln and drag him to Richmond but that plan was utterly failed due to Lincoln not showing up at that event. The mistake led to another plan involving John Wilkes Booth doing the murder himself. The motive to assassinating Lincoln and his succeeders was to make the U.S government throw itself into a big mess and create chaos.

Any similar circumstances surrounding the murder (murder weapon, death, place of assassination, investigation, consequences, etc)?
Both the leaders were shot by a gun, they were both in a big event but the investigation were even bigger in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The difference was the consequences and the motive, the assassination of Gustav III was due to the citizens having enough of the kind ruling the country whilst the assassination of Lincoln was because of the masterminds trying to throw U.S into disarray.

Something clearly dissimilar between the two events?
As I stated before, the two assassinations had two different motives and had different events leading to the murder. The Lincoln assassinations was because of the group trying to create chaos in the U.S government and ruin it whilst the assassination of Gustav III happened because of the citizens having enough of his leadership and wanted to put an end to it all.

What kinds of leadership did these historical figures represent? (Important actions in life?)
Gustav III was a bad king seen from the perspective of the citizens. The king did unnecessary actions which led to the citizens and the nobles hate against him. He withdrawn many of their noble privileges and worst of all he led the Swedes to war against the Russians which was futile and consequences led to the residents despising him and trying to get rid of him.
Abraham Lincoln leading the civil war and ended the nobles having slaves making the nobles less powerful.

    Gilla

  13. The motivation was probably political.

In both assassinations where used a gun and Both took place in a public place.
The killer was maybe 20-30 years old and the killer screams something after when he did shot.

Gustav 3 was warned butt Lincoln was not. John Booth broke his leg and the Gustavs killer not.

How the two countries acted to these assassinations and how the investigation was done. Both was leaders during a war an they where wining the war.

    Gilla

  14. What was the motive for the assassinations?
The main reason for the murders is that Gustav the third and Abraham Lincoln removed power from the assassins. They made the assassins to lose almost all power to control other people and the assassins didn’t take it so well and probably wanted revenge.

Any similar circumstances surrounding the murder (murder weapon, death, place of assassination, investigation, consequences, etc.)?

The both of them were murdered on a social-event like the opera or a theater and in my eyes that’s the same thing. An other similar thing is that both of them got shoot at from behind Gustav survived the shoot but died from blood poisoning unlike Abraham that died instantly.
The both of them got shoot by a gun

The both counties were also in war. The Swedish against the Russian and a civil war in the US.

Something clearly dissimilar between the two events?

Gustavs assassins were ”royal” but Lincolns was a soldier. As I mentioned before a huge difference is that Abraham died instantly meanwhile Gustav was alive a couple of days after he got shooted and died from blood poisoning.
Gustav got a heads up before he got murdered and Abraham had no clue.

What kinds of leadership did these historical figures represent? (Important actions in life?)
Abraham was the president of the united states and only ruled one half in the civil war.
Gustav was the king of sweden and was in charge of everything.
