Responding to what we have read

You have three choices for how to respond to what you have read

  1. A book review
  2. A presentation to the class
  3. Your own creative writing

The deadline is the 22nd of April.

1. Book review

Write a book review  of about half a page. Aim to answer the following questions:

  • Why did you choose this book (Genre? Title? Cover illustration? Favourite author?) and what were your expectations?
  • What was the book about? (You don’t need to describe the whole plot or give too many spoilers!  Just explain the basic situation.)
  • What surprised you about the book?
  • Was there anything the author could/should have done differently.
  • In what ways did this book remind you of other things you have read (or films, tv shows etc)?
  • Who would you recommend this book to?

Your review should include at least two quotations from the book.

2. Presentation

Choose a passage (about a page) from the book that you liked and read it aloud for the class.

  • What is the context? (What is happening in the story?)
  • Why did you choose it?
  • Pick three sentences you thought were particularly surprising, funny, beautiful or  well-written and explain what you found interesting about them.

It’s a good idea to practice your reading before hand so you feel confident.

3. Creative writing

Write a short story about a day in the life of one of the characters in the book. The story should be told in the ‘first person’ (from the character’s point of view).  It does not have to be a main character.

En tanke på “Responding to what we have read”

  1. Picture A: I see the king and the queen of England and people sitting all around them
Picture B: I see the king of Sweden having a speech and other Swedish politicians listening to him
